"So printing a Seal Vector® on a wine label only requires a modification in the design of the label. The ATT winery customer will use a special proprietary application to read their Seal Vectors, with a unique user ID and passcode. Supply chain customers of the wine can install a special optical device on their smartphones to read the Seal Vector® and be assured of the wine's authenticity. "The beauty of our solution is that you can include variable information in the code. This individual Serial Number is embedded in the Titanium© code. When the consumer scans the QR Code, the file server identifies the S/N. In the response back to the smartphone, the ATT application sends the security elements associated with this S/N. The combination of the S/N and the security elements is unique. This is why the consumer can visually identify genuine or fake products. Notification of such a request can be sent to the winery, with the location of the requester, making it easy for the winery to determine if the wine has been diverted." "The same applies to cases. ATT customers apply tamper evident seals on the cases before they leave the winery, and this guarantees that the case contains original bottles. This will become more and more important as more and more fake wines are auctioned." What the Consumer Sees The winery can refine what information will be displayed when a customer scans the code. To counter the counterfeiters, at a minimum it will show an image of the security elements associated with the S/N. But the display can also include some history on the winery, the winemaker, varietal or blend information, and what foods might pair well with the wine. Giving the consumer not only security, but interesting information about the wine, increases the strength of the winery-customer bond which is so crucial to customer loyalty. The Seal Vector® authenticator protects the brand owner, products and customers. It improves security, logistics productivity, quality assurance and reduces costs without any change in existing processes or special equipment. It can be visible and/or invisible. Several wineries with high-end products to protect have already adopted the technology. Most noticeable is the Alliance des Crus Bourgeois (see photos), whose members are well underway with adoption of the Seal Vectors on their products, and the Bordeaux Wine Bank, fine wine transporters who place strong emphasis on safe, temperature-controlled transport and guarantee the provenance of the wines they move. • Win es & V i n es JU LY 20 13 21
