the challenge
The laundry building of the former Northern Michigan Asylum was not the easiest space
to convert into an urban winery, but Left Foot Charley Winery owners Bryan and Jen Ulbrich wanted a space to highlight Michigan���s wines and serve the bustling summer tourist
crowds. An extensive six-month renovation of their location in the former asylum, now
known as The Village, included installing new drains, a new roof, new climate control and
adding a tasting room with a deli-style kitchen.
