Airocide clears the air Developed by NASA to clean the air of unwanted microbes and organic compounds, Airocide air purifiers can help w i ne ri e s co n tr o l mold and protect against bacterial contamination. Airocide employs a 254-nanometer light to convert unwanted contaminants to water vapor. The company claims its device is effective at preventing airborne contamination from TCA, TBA, Brett and other microbes. Details: airocide.com. Vogelsang wine pump The new Vogelsang 66gpm rotary lobe pumps are designed with gentle pumping technology and come in sizes to fit small and large wineries. Available as fixed units or mounted on a cart, the HiFlo Lobe design can self-prime to 25 feet, run dry, discharge to more than 15 bar, pump forward or reverse and pass solids up to 2.5 inches. Full-bore magflowmeter by Burkert Designed for sanitary operations, the full bore magflowmeter Type 8056 by Burkert comes standard with PTFE lining, 2X 316L stainless steel electrodes, a body of 304 stainless steel and both analog and digital pulse output. The meter consists of a magnetic sensor designed for high-precision dosing or flow measurement. Details: burkert-usa.com. Updated eProvenance tracker The Franco-American firm eProvenance���s Global Tracker transmits temperature and humidity data���as well as location in real time���using GSM text messages. The tracker also uploads data to an online monitoring system. Details: eprovenance.com. Enhanced palletizer by Intelligrated Intelligrated improved its Alvey 950 Series of hybrid palletizers. New features include an on-board stretch-bander that adds stability to unstable loads and an integrated control system that enables both the conventional palletizer and its robotic arms���used for gentler handling���to operate from a single PLC. 38 W in es & V i ne s JANUARY 20 13 Power drill corkscrew The SKIL iXO cordless screwdriver is now available in the iXO Vivo model that comes with a corkscrew attachment to pull a cork in less than 10 seconds, according to the manufacturer. The Vivo comes with a foil cutter, wine stopper, five-piece drill bit set, charger and storage box. Details: skilixo.com. Malolactic strain for high alcohol levels BSG Wine is offering a malolactic strain by Enologica Vason called AmarO4, produced by Christian Hansen. The strain is a direct addition culture and can tolerate up to 16% alcohol and 40ppm total SO2. Details: bsgwine.com. Thermal plant treatment The tractor-pulled Thermal Plant Treatment machine by AgroThermal Systems helps growers reduce the use of pesticides, and field trials indicate it could help fruit set. Built by American Grape Harvesters, the machine blows vines with air heated to more than 215��F at a wind velocity of 135-160 mph. The system was designed for pest control, but AgroThermal CEO Marty Fischer reports it has proved successful in producing better fruit set, developing thicker grape skins and is effective at drying clusters after rain storms. Details: agrothermalsystems.com. Double-walled KeyKeg20 Lightweight Containers released its new cylindrical KeyKeg20. The PET kegs come with a new double-wall system that surrounds the bag containing wine, beer or other beverages. The space around the bag is pressurized, ensuring the beverage does not come into contact with the propellant gas. Lightweight Containers claims its KeyKeg20 is ���extremely resistant to external influences��� and can withstand high temperatures during transport. KeyKegs can hold 20 or 30 liters, and 80 cylindrical KeyKeg20s can fit on one pallet for shipping. Details: keykeg.com. New Armbruster hopper Scott Laboratories now offers the new Armbruster KVB15 vibrating, tipping hopper. The unit is designed to receive grapes from half-ton bins and then feed them to a destemmer or manual sorting table with a hydraulic tipping and shaking device. Scott Laboratories reports subsequent bins can be added without interrupting the flow providing a continuous operation at up to 9 tons per hour. Details: scottlab.com.
