JANUARY NEWS Hess Collection taps area sales manager Ryan Jones is the new southwest regional sales manager for The Hess Collection Winery in Napa. Jones��� territory will include Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico. Most recently he was the business manager for the Meritage Fine Wine Division, which represents Hess Family Wine Estates. Napa Vintners hire rep for Canada The Napa Valley Vintners retained Cyndy Pellegrin to represent the 435 vintner members in Canada. N O RTH WEST College seeks items for wine museum Winery installs nitrogen generator Linfield College in McMinnville, Ore., is seeking help from Oregon winemakers and growers to build its Oregon wine history archive. College archivist Rachael Woody is looking for photos, diaries and scrapbooks as well as technical items such as planting notes, crop reports, pest and disease records, correspondence, maps, tasting notes, wine labels and press clippings. Winemaker Eric von Krosigk said the winery purchased the generator though a government research grant, and he believes Summerhill is the first British Columbia winery to have a generator. The unit is plumbed directly to tanks to gas the headspace and will provide nitrogen for other winemaking operations. In his blog posted on the winery���s website, Von Krosigk said he���ll study the effectiveness of atmospheric nitrogen as a preservative with 2012 wines. Details: summerhill.bc.ca.
