Faces& Forums Big Happy Family NEWSMAKERS Visits the City In addition to accepting orders, some wineries offer on-site sales S an Francisco, Calif.—This Septem- ber, for the second year, consumers at Family Winemakers of California's annual tasting were able to walk away from Fort Mason with more than just good memories and a souvenir glass. The Taste & Take program was even more popular this year, with dozens of wineries opting to bring inventory to the 22nd annual event and offer it for sale to the hundreds of consumer and trade visitors passing through the Festival Pavilion. Labels new to the event included Ten Acre Wines, a project of Bella Vineyards owners Scott and Lynn Adams. San Francisco's very own The Winery SF poured 15 different wines for Bay Area residents, with the intent of drumming up interest in the 5,000-case winery, tasting room and event center. The aim of the Family Winemakers an- nual tasting is to offer some of California's small-production wineries the opportunity to connect with consumers and members of the trade. The second day of the tasting was devoted entirely to trade members, with restaurant and wine shop representatives as well as members of the media filing through and sampling wines from 250 participating wineries. Family Winemakers board members such as Carole Meredith of Lagier Meredith Vineyard were on the floor pouring for guests. —Kate Lavin 24 WINES & VINES OCTOBER 2012 Jim Rickards passes out coasters with wear- able, punch-out moustaches to match his own.
