First is the 800-page Opus Vino, pub- lished by DK Books and edited by Jim Gordon. Gordon is Wines & Vines' edi- tor and has been covering wine as a jour- nalist for 25-plus years. Opus Vino is a full-color reference using 37 authors to recommend more Jean-Martin Bouchard in Oliver, B.C.. Bouchard worked in Aus- tralia, where he studied wine science, and went on to work in Europe and Canada, in the Niagara and Okanagan Valley regions. Details: road13vineyards.com. Bouchard joins Road 13 Hailing from Montreal, Quebec, Jean- Martin Bouchard will be the new wine- maker at 16,000-case Road 13 Vineyards OWB appoints Morgan executive director The board of directors of the Oregon Wine Board (OWB), Oregon Winegrow- ers Association and the Trust for Oregon Wine Education and Research announced that Jeanette Morgan has been named ex- ecutive director of the OWB. Morgan will be responsible for strategic planning and than 4,000 of the world's best wineries. The second book, Home Winemaking for Dummies, is published by IDG Books and written by Tim Patterson, Wines & Vines columnist and award-winning amateur winemaker. Offering a variety of techniques suited to making different types of wine, a glos- sary of need-to-know terms and lists of resources to obtain grapes, equipment and supplies, Home Winemaking For Dummies is a guide for both novices and more experienced home winemakers. The A to Z portfolio in- cludes Rex Hill, A to Z, William Hatcher and Francis Tannahill brands. B.C. VQA wine sales rise The British Columbia Wine Institute reported that sales of B.C. Vintners Quality Alliance wine have grown more than CAD$40 million during the past four years. Sales this year topped CAD$191 million, an increase of 13.8% over the pre- vious year. Sales at the B.C. VQA's 19 wine stores were 14% higher than last year. B.C. VQA is a voluntary appellation of origin sys- tem that defines and mandates standards for wine production and certification.
