Swedish Hill hires Wilber Swedish Hill Win- ery, a 60,000-case producer located in Romulus, N.Y., has named Derek Wilber as winemaker. Wil- ber, formerly with 10,000–case White Springs Winery in Geneva, N.Y., previ- ously worked as a winemaker for Swed- ish Hill from 2000 until 2005. Wilber is a Finger Lakes native and has worked as a commercial winemaker since 1984. Visit: swedishhill.com. Direct shipping passes in Maryland Wineries will be able to ship wine directly to Maryland citizens starting July 1. The Maryland wine industry has fought for the ability to ship wine since 1981, when the first direct-shipping legislation was intro- duced in the General Assembly. Once in effect, Maryland will officially become the 38th state to allow winery direct shipping.
