30 WINES&VINES February 2016 Zebra fermentor by Rousseau The Zebra fermentation vat by Tonnellerie Rousseau is assem- bled with 50 mm French oak staves that have been toasted in the traditional manner over open fires alternating with staves that were toasted in a convection oven. The two toasting methods produce staves of contrasting color, giving the vats their striped appearance. Ac- cording to the supplier, the tanks are ideal for enhancing "roast- ed, toasty flavors" during fermen- tation and for bigger, more concentrated red wines. artisanbarrels.com NuBarrel for wine storage Sonoma Cast Stone unveiled the NuBarrel, a concrete, stackable tank designed as an alternative to oak barrels. The new tank holds as much wine as four stan- dard barrels but will last for nearly 40 years, ac- cording to the manufacturer. The NuBarrel also features an immersion sleeve to add or remove oak chips as needed. concretewinetanks.com New oak chips for rich, full wines The SC100 chips by Boise France of Vivelys are designed to bring "richness, mellow- ness and sweet- ness" to red, rosé and white wines that risk tasting too harsh. With an ex- traction time of five weeks, the chips can be used at various stages of the winemaking process. vivelys.com Single-serve bottling option G3 and Zipz are now offering custom bottling and pack- aging with the Zipz single-serve wine package. The PET package features pat- ented CleanWrap technology designed to be used with G3's custom-built bottling line. According to G3 and Zipz, wine sealed in the package stays fresh for up to 12 months. g3enterprises.com Perle de Quintessence fermentation barrel Tonnellerie Quintessence unveiled the Perle de Quintessence, a trun- cated, oval-shaped barrel that takes its name from its teardrop sil- houette. The barrel is meant for wine fermentation and was designed and built in collaboration with Grand Cru Classé Chateau Fonplégade in St. Emilion, France. The Perle features a removable lid with a hermetic seal, and the barrel's shape forces wine and juice to pass through a larger volume of pomace during a pumpover. The Perle is produced with 24-month-aged staves of fine-grain French oak and toasted to help the barrel integrate with the wine, preserve the fruit and offer a "hint of soft oak aromatics." tonnelleriequintessence.fr Product News Latest offerings and announcements
