February 2016 WINES&VINES 31 PRODUCT NEWS Twist-off bottle wax Reed Wax is now offering "twist- off" bottle-dipping and sealing wax. The new wax eliminates the need for tear tape. "Just grab the wax at the T-top and twist for sep- aration," said Brian Walsh, Reed Wax's product development director. reedwax.com Sanitary gearbox for food and beverage production Stober Drives Inc. released a stainless steel, inline planetary gearbox specifically designed for sanitary food and beverage pro- duction. The unit can handle ratios from 4:1 to 100:1 and is adaptable to several NEMA C-frame motors, according to the manufacturer. stober.com Hand-held molecular analyzer Consumer Physics has developed what it claims is the "world's first molecular sensor that fits in the palm of your hand." The SCiO scanner uses near-infrared spec- troscopy to generate a spectrum of the material being analyzed. That information is then transmit- ted wirelessly to a cloud-based service that uses algorithms to generate a full analytical re- port about the sample that is then sent to the opera- tor's smartphone. The device can be used to determine alcohol content, Brix level, total acidity and perform other analyses. consumerphysics.com Wine shipping to China Vin65 partnered with Gliding Eagle to offer winery tasting rooms a shipping service to cus- tomers in China. Gliding Eagle will pick up wine in the Napa, Calif., area, and the company promises to get wine to Hong Kong in four days or mainland China in 12 days. Wineries outside of Napa will need to ship wine destined for China to Gliding Eagle's Napa- based facility. vin65.com, gliding-eagle.com/us/ 1.5-liter bottle meets LCBO standards Ardagh Group released a 1.5-liter bottle that complies with new standards for lightweight bottles by the Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO). The new bottle weighs 670 grams (24 ounces). ardaghgroup.com Mythos presses Mythos pneumatic presses by German supplier M.A.S. are now available in the United States through P&L Specialties. The presses feature vertical, stainless- steel juice channels and a large lid that runs nearly the entire length of the press chamber, making it easy to ensure the press is filled uniformly. Press juice, free run or press wine quickly flows out of the unit without requiring the chamber to be turned. A touch- screen display enables the opera- tor to run different press cycles depending on grape variety or press material from whole clusters to pomace. pnlspecialties.com Filter testing devices Parker Dominick Hunters' Bev- check and Bevcheck Plus filter testing devices are designed to test the integrity of membrane filters with the pressure-decay method. The Bevcheck device is a handheld unit that can also be mounted directly to a filter hous- ing. Bevcheck Plus is an auto- mated unit that runs the entire test cycle. The Bevcheck Plus is small enough to be moved around a production facility or can be mounted in a central location. parker.com Send your product news to edit@winesandvines.com GRAPE PROCESSING SYSTEMS-QUALITY YOU CAN RELY ON Decades of experience, know-how and innovation combined in our grape processing systems.
