New Mason-Dixon later, however, grapegrowing regions don't necessarily reflect such arbitrary political borders. When the UnCork York Wine Trail—established in 2005 with 10 wineries in three south-central Pennsylvania counties—decided to expand, it seemed logical to include the winegrowing area across the border in Maryland. On Sept. 15, the trail expanded and renamed itself the Mason-Dixon Wine Trail. L The new trail includes 12 wineries in four Pennsylvania counties and two in Maryland. It will continue to be managed by the York County Convention and Visitors Bureau. According to Carl Helrich, owner and winemaker at 3,000-case Allegro Vineyards in Brogue, Pa., the region straddling the Mason-Dixon border shares similar soils and weather conditions. "We have a region that crosses borders with unique soils," Helrich said. AS GOOD AS IT GETS. More than 150 years Mike Fiore of Fiore Vineyards and Anne Druck of the York County Con- vention and Visitors Bureau spoke at the Mason-Dixon Wine Trail launch. Two events popularized by the former UnCork York trail will continue. "Wine Just Off the Vine" will be expanded to two weekends—Nov. 12- 13 and 19-20—and include freshly pressed and nouveau-style wines. "Tour De Tanks" will take place Saturdays and Sundays in March. Winery members of the Mason-Dixon Wine Trail include the following wineries in Pennsylvania: Adams County Winery (12,000 cases), Allegro Vineyards, Cullari Vineyards & Winery (5,000 cases), Four Springs Winery (1,500 cases), Hauser Estate Winery (6,500 cases), Hummingbird Ridge Winery (400 cases), Moon Dancer Vineyard & Winery (3,200 cases), Naylor Wine Cellars (9,000 cases), Reid's Orchard & Winery (300 cases), Tamanend Winery (10,000 cases), The Vineyard at Hershey (opening in February 2012) and West Hanover Winery (2,900 cases). The two Maryland wineries are 41,000-case Boordy Vineyards and Fiore Vineyards (16,000 cases).
