Although still relatively small and definitely casual, the event has become broader in scope in recent years as more wineries both inside and outside Anderson Valley pour Pinot Noir from grapes grown within the cool- climate American Viticultural Area. A May 16 technical conference organized by the Anderson Valley Winegrowers Associa- tion helped to make the weekend a draw for local growers and winemakers as well as consumers. Attendees visited wineries, ate barbecued lamb at Foursight Winery, tasted hundreds of wines and sampled local food at the grand tasting that hosted 650 people at Goldeneye Winery. A focused tasting for wine writers included Pinot Noirs from 36 wineries ranging from 2007 to 2012. —Jim Gordon Kay Hahn and son James Hahn of Chanamé Wines make an Anderson Valley Pinot Noir.
