The monthly total of $135 million reflected a slower growth rate than the previous month, when the value of DtC shipments was 11% higher than in April 2013. Shipments from wineries in Napa County, Calif., accounted for 48% of the value of DtC shipments in the 12 months through May. This was the same percentage as a year earlier. Napa County DtC shipments totaled $797 million and 1.2 million cases. Caber- net Sauvignon accounted for 45% by value of those shipments, which was an increase of 2%. Cabernet Sau- vignon totaled 360,658 cases. Red blends were second in value and volume, with sales of $146 million and 153,416 cases. Metrics Show Single-Digit Growth Rates in May The Wine Industry Metrics for May showed solid single-digit growth compared to May 2013, while the 12-month growth rates were all higher. The rate of growth in off-premise sales of domestic wine was 5% for the month and 6% for 12 months, according to IRI. Direct-to-consumer (DtC) shipments grew 6% in May and 10% for 12 months. The Winery Job Index by Winejobs.com grew 6% in May and 18% for 12 months. Direct-to-consumer wine shipments grew 6% in May and 10% during the past 12 months through May.
