Fundraiser for scholarships Soda Rock Winery in Healdsburg hosted the 13th annual fundraiser for the Children of Vineyard Workers Scholarship Fund on May 10. Nearly 300 people attended the event, rais- ing more than $60,000 for the fund, which was established in 2001 by Ken and Diane Wilson, owners of Wilson Winery and other Sonoma County wineries. In cooperation with the Com- munity Foundation of Sonoma County, the program has meted out more than $200,000 in scholarships. Details: sonomacf.org. Trout returns to Flying Trout Winemaker Ashley Trout is returning to Walla Walla, Wash.- based Flying Trout Wines, the winery she founded in 2004. Trout sold the winery to TERO Estates in 2010 and left the company in 2013, after the birth of her sec- ond child, but ulti- mately she decided to return to wine- making. "Time and time again, incre- mentally, the wines kept calling, and I couldn't shake it," Trout said. With Trout's return, winemaker Doug Roskelley will focus on TERO estate wines, manag- ing the estate vineyard and developing a new winery in Walla Walla. Details: tero- estates.com. Economic impact of wine in Ohio The Ohio wine and grape industry generated an economic impact of $786 million in 2012, according to a report commissioned and funded by the Ohio Grape Industries Com- mittee in Reynoldsburg, Ohio. Ohio's wine industry supported 5,291 full-time jobs and generated $87 million in federal and state taxes the same year. The economic impact had grown 34% since a similar report con- ducted in 2008. According to the Wines Vines Analytics winery database, Ohio is home to 144 wineries, which produce 750,000 cases of wine. New partner in Chateau de Leelanau Kyle Cook joins Matt Gregory as owner of Chateau de Leelanau Vineyard & Winery in Suttons Bay, Mich. Gregory purchased the winery in 2009 with members of his family as partners.
