Winetica control system Italian equipment supplier Innotec In- novative Technolo- gies has released its new Winetica wine- making monitoring and control system, which won an innovation award at the SIMEI trade show in Italy in 2013. The system uses a multiparametric probe, RFID technology and wireless transmit- ters in a vest worn by a cellar worker. As the worker moves from tank to tank with the probe, data on fermentation, temper- ature, oxygen levels, pH, turbidity, con- ductivity and other key information are transmitted to the central system. 'Safe curve' bags by Smurfit Kappa Packaging manufacturer Smurfit Kappa un- veiled its new "safe curve" wine pouches that feature additional seals. In addition to the standard seals, the new bags now have eight other radial seals in each corner to help protect the w i n e . T h e n e w, sturdier design is intended to provide protec- tion during t h e f i l l i n g process, when the bag is dropped in the box and when the box flaps are folded and glued. World Cooperage infrared toasted barrels Cooperages 1912 is expanding the World Cooperage Profile Series to include barrels toasted with custom infrared technology. The company will offer two new infrared toast profiles: Aroma and Reflection. The Aroma toast offers a full spectrum of oak aromatics to accent fruit characteristics and boost richness in the mid palate, while the Reflec- tion toast lifts and enhances fruit flavors with mild oak flavors and aromas. World Cooperage's research and development director David Llordrá said, "The infrared profiles are extremely precise, offer clean favors and explore new combinations of aro- mas and flavors not previously available to winemakers."
