Texas wine industry holds roundtable
Representatives from the Texas wine
industry met with state officials, business leaders and university staff in late
August in Comfort, Texas, to discuss the
economic impact and future of Texas'
wine industry. According to a news release from the Texas Hill Country Wineries association, all sides agreed on the
need to improve winemaking, viticulture
and wine business education opportunities in the state as well as bolster efforts
in collaborative marketing. The meeting
was arranged and hosted by Bending
Branch Winery owners Bob Young and
John Rivenburgh.

Survey finds support
for Pa. privatization
A survey funded by
two political groups
indicates the majority of Pennsylvania
residents support
an end to the state's
monopoly on selling liquor and wine.
Of the 1,100 people surveyed, more than
60% support abolishing the Pennsylvania
Liquor Control Board and its wine and liquor stores. The survey was co-sponsored
by the Commonwealth Foundation, which
supports free-market policies, and the liberal group Keystone Politics.

of $250,000
through the Boswell Family Foundation
to the planned Wine Science Center at
Washington State University's campus
in the Tri-Cities area of Washington.
In addition to the monetary donation,
Cooperages 1912 also pledged to fill the
barrel needs of junior and senior students in WSU's Viticulture and Enology

Sansaud names sales vice president,
opens Napa office
Tonnellerie Sansaud named Franck
Laborbe as the vice president of sales
for Sansaud USA. The company also announced it had opened an office in Napa,
Calif., as well as a barrel-storage warehouse in nearby American Canyon, Calif.
