Paige is leaving after 16 years with the winery to acquire his own vineyard and launch a new brand. Hennen has worked alongside Paige since 2007 and is being promoted to winemaker from the position of associate winemaker. Matt Perry and Noah Roberts, who also have worked at the winery for several vin- tages, have been promoted to assistant winemaker and cellar master, respectively. CENTRAL Jefferson Cup winners announced The 18th annual Jefferson Cup Invitational in Kansas City, Mo., drew 750 wine entries from 27 states. Judges selected 73 wines for gold medals; 62 wines won double-gold, and 16 wines re- ceived best of show, or Jefferson Cup honors. Of the Jefferson Cup winners, all of the four white vinifera wines came from wineries in Michigan or New York, and just one of the four red vinifera wines came from California. EAST Lake Erie wine group names CEO Shaun Patrick Smith is the new president and CEO of Lake Erie Wine Country in Westfield, N.Y. Formerly a U.S. Merchant Marine officer, Smith has held a variety of chief executive positions at the Grand Fallsview Hotel, the Boys and Girls Club and Buffalo Trans- portation. Smith replaces Julie Ellis, the prior association presi- dent and author of Lake Erie Wine Country, who has moved to South Carolina, where she has taken a position in the tourism industry. The association represents 22 wineries located on the southern shore of Lake Erie. Martin joins Vinous Neal Martin, former lead critic for Robert Parker Wine Advocate, is joining New York-based Vinous as senior editor. Martin will cover the wines of Bordeaux, Burgundy, South Africa and New Zealand and rejoins Advocate alumnus Antonio Galloni, who founded Vi- nous in 2013. Galloni and Martin will both cover Bordeaux, and Martin and Stephen Tanzer will cover Burgundy. SUPPLIER Oak suppliers donate for fire relief Cooperages 1912 and Oak Solu- tions Group made a joint donation of $100,000 to The Tipping Point and Redwood Credit Union for wildfire relief efforts in the North Coast area of California. The Tip- ping Point Emergency Relief Fund will receive $50,000, and Red- wood Credit Union Community North Bay Fire Relief Fund will receive $50,000.
