August 2017 WINES&VINES 19 WINE INDUSTRY NEWS CALIFORNIA After BV, Stambor launches winemaking consultancy Jeffrey Stambor, former winemaker of Beaulieu Vineyard winery in Ruth- erford, Calif., has opened Jeffrey Stambor Wine Consulting, which will offer winemaking, consulting and one-off project support. In a state- ment announcing his new business, Stambor said his nearly 30 years at BV as well as work in France and Argentina exposed him to many grapegrowing and winemaking conditions and created the relation- ships and experiences necessary to launch a consulting business. New Vine Cliff winemaker John Wilson is the new winemaker at Vine Cliff Winery in Napa Valley. Prior to joining Vine Cliff, Wilson was the winemaker at Thomas George Estates in the Russian River Valley of Sonoma County and assistant winemaker at Littorai Wines in Sebastopol. He began his career in winemaking as cellar master for Outpost Wines and Riv- ers Marie Wines in Napa Valley. CEO of St. Francis dies Christopher Silva, the president and CEO of St. Francis Winery & Vineyards in Sonoma County, died June 20. He was 52. After leaving a Los Angeles law firm in 1992, Silva joined a Santa Rosa firm and stud- ied wine and winemaking at Santa Rosa Junior College. He became president and CEO at St. Francis in 2003 after joining the winery in 1998. New president, associate winemaker at Dutton-Goldfield Peter Heyworth was hired for the newly created position of presi- dent at Dutton-Goldfield winery in Sebastopol. Prior to joining the winery, Heyworth worked in upper management positions at Diageo, Allied Domecq, Vincor, Fosters and Independent Distillers. The winery also hired James McCeney as as- sociate winemaker. McCeney is the former owner of Bridges Wine Co. in Pittsburgh, Pa., and prior to that he worked as assistant winemaker at Patz & Hall Wine Co. in Sonoma. Editorial changes at wine publications Joe Czerwinski is leaving Wine Enthusiast after nearly 18 years to become the new managing editor of digital publications for Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, Wine Journal and Hedonist's Gazette. Lauren Buzzeo, former senior edi- tor, was promoted to the managing editor position at Wine Enthusiast magazine. Czerwinski joins the wine review team of Wine Advo- cate and will be covering Australia, New Zealand, the Rhône Valley and Languedoc-Roussillon. The Wine Advocate's editor-in-chief, Lisa Perrotti-Brown, will review the wines of California's Central Coast. The Stomping Ground gets new winemaker Geoff Mace is the new winemaker and cellar operations manager at The Stomping Ground, a custom- crush facility in Gilroy. Most re- cently, Mace was a winemaker for Constellation Brands and also has held winemaking and operations roles with Treasury Wine Estates, O'Neill Vintners and Distillers, plus The Wine Group. In Mace's new role, he will assist with the comple- tion of the winery's new crush pad and production cellar. Dimitri Tchelistcheff dies Napa Valley winemaker Dimitri Regional News Christopher Silva
