EAST EWE charity auction supports scholarships A charity auction that was part of the recent Eastern Winery Exposition in Syracuse, N.Y., raised more than $15,000 to support scholar- ships that will be conferred by the American Society for Enology and Viticulture-Eastern Sec- tion this year. The auction took place during the exposition held March 22-24. The 2018 EWE will take place in Lancaster, Pa. Georgia winery founder dies Doug Paul, owner of Three Sisters Vineyard and Win- ery in Dahlonega, Ga., died March 7 at age 59. Paul and his wife Sharon Paul bought a 184- acre farm, planted grapes and opened the winery in 1996. Paul's goal was to make high-quality wine and to encourage the establishment of vineyards in the region. Paul was also well known for his work in television and radio. He was the signature voice for GRIT TV (owned by Katz Broadcasting) and for Jo- seph A. Bank clothiers. He was the owner of Catspaw Productions and Catspaw Studios. SUPPLIER Promotions at Cork Supply Cork Supply USA in Benicia, Calif., promoted Christine Matusek to operations manager for cork and distributed products. Matusek previ- ously had been the company's business pro- cess engineer and continuous improvement engineer. In her new role, Matusek will manage a production team and oversee process flow, long-range scheduling and achieving efficiency goals, according to a statement by Cork Supply USA. The company also promoted both Shanna Hamernick and Hemina Patel to the post of se- nior customer service representative. Erbslöh earns certification Erbslöh Group announced it had earned FSSC 22000 certification. After more than 20 years with ISO 9001 certification, the beverage spe- cialist earned the new certification that com- bines the ISO 22000 standard with Food Safety System Certification (FSSC) and is tailored to food industry needs. New web-based distribution portal The founders of the San Jose, Calif.-based company Liberation Distribution claim its new web-based distribution portal provides win- eries with an easy path to wholesale sales. Liberation Distribution (LibDib) is a three-tier compliant platform designed to link retailers and on-premise accounts with wine, beer and spirits producers. Wineries and breweries (or "makers," as LibDib refers to them) upload li- censes and basic information and define prod- uct selection, calculate their listed wholesale price and pick where to distribute. The platform handles the invoicing, payment processing, collections and taxes. Cooperages 1912 donates barrels Napa, Calif.-based Cooperages 1912 do- nated barrels to the Wine and Viticulture Department at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, to support stu- dent education and research.
