Key Indicators Complete data is available at winesandvines.com/metrics S ales of U.S. wine in all channels hit $3.4 billion in March 2017, up 5% from a year earlier, according to market-re- search firm bw166. Sales for the 12 months through March 2017 topped $39 billion, up 4% from March 2016. Domestic sparkling wine sales increased 10% in March versus March 2016, while 12-month sales grew at a slightly cooler pace of 9% over the previous year. Growth across all categories (domestic and imported bulk wines, as well as packaged im- ports) was even at 4%, and translated into total wine sales also rising 4% to $60 billion in the 12 months ended March 2017. The growth in sales is approximately double the seasonally adjusted inflation rate, suggesting the gains are attributable to more than the standard price increases. With the Conference Board reporting con- sumer confidence at its highest level since De- cember 2000, surging to levels not seen since before the dot-com bust of 2001, many winer- ies and retailers are preparing for sustained growth. Nevertheless, bottles in the $8 to $20 range were responsible for much of the growth. —Peter Mitham U.S. Wine Sales Winery Job Index MONTH March 2017 420 March 2016 379 12 MONTHS March 2017 294 March 2016 275 MONTHLY INDEX 7% Steady Growth Raises U.S. Wine Sales 5% to $3.4 Billion Source: winejobs.com Winejobs.com Index 500 400 300 200 100 0 2017 2016 Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sep Oct Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar 11% METRICS 10 WINES&VINES May 2017 Off-Premise Sales IRI Channels MONTH March 2017 $654M March 2016 $639M 12 MONTHS March 2017 $8,695M March 2016 $8,360M MONTHLY SALES U.S. Wine Sales MONTH March 2017 $3,370M March 2016 $3,222M 12 MONTHS March 2017 $39,271M March 2016 $37,930M MONTHLY SALES 2% 4% 4% 5% Direct-to-Consumer Shipments MONTH March 2017 $311M March 2016 $283M 12 MONTHS March 2017 $2,436M March 2016 $2,052M MONTHLY SHIPMENTS 19% 10% Source: , Wines Vines Analytics.
