IRI reported that Vintner's Reserve averaged $12.02 per bottle in the multiple-outlet and convenience store channel and grew by 2% in both value and volume in the most recent 52-week period. While K-J Chardonnay in particular has long been a market leader, it also benefits from the current premiumization trend, in which consumers have been opting more for wines over $9 and less for those under $9. The $11-$14.99 "super premium" segment gained more sales value than any other price group in 2016. Top-Selling Sparkling Wine Brand KORBEL CHAMPAGNE CELLARS With colorful, innovative new packaging and new flavors, the wines of Korbel Champagne Cellars stayed on top of off-premise sales in the sparkling wine category during 2016, according to IRI. The Sonoma County, Calif.-based brand emphasizes bottle-fermented wines, which are more costly and more time-consuming to produce than most mass-appeal sparkling wines, so it was not surprising that the average Korbel bottle price of $11.92 was the highest of the top five sparkling brands. Korbel sales grew by 8% in value and volume in the most recent 52 weeks, but it had plenty of company among grow- ing sparkling wine brands, because the sparkling category as a whole grew by 12% in sales. André was the leader in case volume in the retail loca- tions analyzed by IRI.
