30 WINES&VINES November 2016 "This agreement between the Unione Italiana Vini and Munich Exhibition Centre – Antonio Rallo, Chairman of the Unione Italiana Vini, explained - is part of an inter- nationalisation project and stems from the need to offer advantages to users from both worlds, SIMEI and drinktec, creating synergies of obvious interest. Our regular operators will have a new pole to explore different markets and other sectors of the beverage industry, thereby reaching new visitors and buyers. The public and drinktec operators will therefore meet our operators that have always stood out in the field of wine technology. SIMEI will return to Italy in 2019 with the idea of repeat - ing this partnership, strength- ening its potential, always looking for the best solutions for companies ". SIMEI has always been the only international point of reference dedicated to operators and companies in the wine sector. This role was confirmed in 2015 by the presence of top international players and several delega- tions of buyers visiting from the US, Australia, Chile, Spain, Brazil and Tunisia. The growing number of visitors to the last edition, held as usual in the Fiera Rho exhibition centre in Milan, Italy, pro- vides further confirmation thereof. Here, 31,000 profes- sional trade visitors from 90 countries came together with over 600 high profile exhibit- ing companies. This year again, technical experts, winemakers, consul- tants and professionals in the industry can meet and discover the latest industry news, the result of research and experimentation, the real foundations of an industry where "technology" is the key word. Once again, this year's SIMEI will be staging the Innovation Technology Award, the award given by the Unione Italiani Vini to companies that stand out in the development of exclusive patents. As in previous editions, SIMEI will also be an oppor- tunity for qualified profes- sional development. The training aspect is in fact an asset on which Italian Wine Union has always focused in organising the trade fair, with the aim of running various events alongside the main exhibition centred on detailed analysis, training and information for the concrete and constant development of the sector. Of course, there will also a space dedicated to convivial- ity and instruction as to the responsible and moderate consumption of wine thanks to the Sensory Bar created by the Unione Italiana Vini. The Simei Road Show begins.
