30 WINES&VINES September 2015 Moisture-resistant labels The new Monadnock Envi En- hanced Barrier label with Earth- Coating is "the next generation" of moisture-resistant label protection, according to the manufacturer. The labels are a replacement for BOPP (bi-orient- ed polypropylene) film-laminated labels and are available in 100% post-consumer-waste fiber, smooth stock and a virgin fiber, bright white and vellum stock. Mo- nadnock entered into an exclusive licensing agree- ment with Smart Planet Technolo- gies for use of its extruded Earth- Coating technology for adhesive beverage labels in North America in 2014. mpm.com Single-use, air-pressure fermentation tank The Gofermentor is a fermenta- tion tank that operates with a sin- gle-use, biodegradable bladder with two chambers. One chamber is designed to hold must, while the other chamber is filled with air. The liner is enclosed in a rigid container that can be moved by a forklift or pallet. When the air chamber inflates, it compresses the cap and forces juice up through it, creating a "punch up" effect. The air chamber can also be used as a press when fermen- tation is complete, or as a press for whole clusters of white grapes when connected to a second fer- mentor. Once the liner is empty, it can be folded up and discarded. gofermentor.com Cover for stacked bins Vineyard Concepts released a new Concept Cover for two stacked grape bins. The cover is designed to maintain the temper- ature of grapes from harvest through transport and delivery, including while they wait on the crush pad for processing. The new double cover provides the same level of protection but for two stacked bins. vydconcepts.com New capabilities for field computer The Aeros 9040 field computer by TeeJet Technologies now features additional capabilities including tip-flow monitoring, ISOBUS Universal Terminal functionality to integrate with other control modules and Wi-Fi for two-way job data transfer between the ma- chine and farm office. The new features complement existing functions such as guidance, auto steering, video monitoring, vari- able-rate application control, applied mapping, automatic section control and droplet size monitoring. teejet.com Compounds to remove copper, boost aromatics Enartis Vinquiry is offering two new blends of the co-polymer PVI/PVP and yeast derivatives rich in mannoproteins, sulfur-con- taining amino acids and oligopep- tides that can be added at the onset of fermentation to white and rosé wines to remove cooper and boost aromas. Enartis Pro FT is recommended for protection of primary aromas of thiolic variet- ies, and Enartis Pro XP is for non- thiolic varieties. According to the supplier, the co-polymer binds to metals and settles out while the amino acids and oligopeptides provide a substrate for yeast with beta-lyase to produce thiols. The mannoproteins improve mouthfeel and stability. enartisvinquiry.com Brand protection system ThinFilm and G World introduced what they claim is the first "smart wine bottle" featuring ThinFilm's patent-pend- ing NFC OpenSense tags and G World's pat- ented SAMS- CAN process to enable consumers to authenticate a wine while also protecting a brand from counterfeiters. The G World anti- counterfeiting solution—employing Thinfilm's NFC technology—is de- signed to provide authentication of individual bottles throughout the supply chain, ensuring they are packaged, shipped, stocked and purchased in their original factory- sealed state. thinfilm.no, gworldgroup.com ATP offering Seital/SPX Centrifuges American Tartaric Products is now offering the SPX/Seital line of centrifuges. The machines are skid-mounted to allow for "plug and play operation," feature an autopilot option that monitors and opti- mizes the machine's perfor- mance during a cycle, minimize any oxygen pick up with a hydo- hermetic or hermetic seal designs and come with a remote-monitoring capability. americantartaric.com Full-body sleeve by Maverick Maverick Enterprises Inc. now offers full-body sleeves that provide a complete package de- sign without etching or labels. The sleeves can be printed with all perti- nent brand information incorporated into an overall design. maverickcaps.com Liners for ROPP closures Tekni-Plex Inc. has engineered a new laminated aluminum foil/ foam barrier liner for roll-on pilfer- proof (ROPP) wine closures. The new Tri-Vin liners from Tri-Seal, a division of Tekni-Plex Inc., are designed to replace tin/Saran barrier liners commonly used for ROPP wine applications. The manufacturer reports it conducted oxygen-permeability tests as well as sensory organoleptic testing. tekni-plex.com Bird repellent approved in California The liquid bird repellent Avian Control recently was registered for use on wine grapes and other fruit in Califor- nia. According to the manufactur- er, Avian Control does not affect plants or soil in any way, yet it can provide up to two weeks of effectiveness. The compound can be sprayed or fogged at a cost of about $12.50 per acre and can reduce bird losses by 37% to 87% without causing birds to leave excess droppings. aviancontrolinc.com Tow and Blow wind machine The Tow and Blow wind machine was developed in New Zealand and is now for sale in the United States through Chamberlin Agricul- ture. The machine is designed to protect fruit and other crops from freezing temperatures, frost and excessive heat. An aerodynamical- ly designed, composite shroud in- creases airflow to protect up to 10 acres from frost and 3 acres from heat. The fan is powered with a small engine that requires 1.5 gal- lons of fuel per hour, while the hy- draulic lift and rotating mechanism are run by DC power packs with a solar panel to provide backup power. An auto-start mechanism can be set to start the fan at specified temperatures, and at 5.5 feet wide the machine should fit between most vineyard or orchard rows. towandblowusa.com Product News Latest offerings and announcements Send your product news to edit@winesandvines.com
