Exports were up 16.4% over the previous year, continuing a trend of con- secutive value growth in the past four years. The volume of shipments reached 48.4 mil- lion cases, an increase of 7.5%. The insti- tute reports California wines account for 90% of all exports, and most of that wine is going to the European Union. The 28 EU nations imported $617 million worth of U.S. wine, which is 31% more than in 2012. Canadian exports grew 12% to $454 million, and shipments to China increased by 6% to $77 million. Imports to Hong Kong, however, fell 12% to $78 million, and Japanese exports slipped 7% to $102 million. Details: wineinstitute.org. Winemaker promotion at Duckhorn Renee Ary was promoted to the post of wine- maker at Duck- horn Vineyards in Napa Valley. Ary is the fourth per- son to hold the post since the winery's inaugu- ral vintage of 1978. Ary joined the winery in 2003 and worked her way up through several posts to her most recent position as associate winemaker. Details: duckhorn.com. New sales and marketing partnership The Lange, Coors and Ficeli families have formed a new sales and marketing com- pany, LCF Wines, to represent their various wine brands. LCF Wines' portfolio includes LangeTwins, Goosecross, Assembly Carica- ture, Caminada and others. New look for Souverain brand Treasury Wine Estates gave Souverain a new look to help revitalize the historic wine brand. "When we sold the Chateau in 2006, the brand went a little quiet," a spokesman for the company said in a statement. "Not any longer.
