The gold medal- ists from this year's Governor's Cup were selected from 442 entries of both red and white wines, from 100 different Virginia wineries. Frank Britt who was the original publisher of the online magazine and email newsletter Official Virginia Wine Lover and who died in May 2017 was posthumously named the Virginia Wine Person of the Year. Lucie Morton, an author, viticulturist, ampelographer and vineyard consultant, won the Virginia Lifetime Achievement Award. Constellation names new president Bill Newlands has been promoted from chief operations officer to president and COO of Constellation Brands, which is based in Victor, N.Y., and the third-largest U.S. wine com- pany. Rob Sands, who previously held the title of president and CEO, will continue to serve as CEO. New- lands joined Constellation in 2015 as the executive vice president and chief growth officer and become COO in 2017. Newlands is also a former president of Beam Spirits U.S., Beam Wine Estates and president and CEO of Allied Domecq Wines USA. ASEV-ES auctions raise scholarship money During the recent Eastern Winery Exposition (EWE) the American Society for Enology and Viticulture- Eastern Section held a live auction that raised more than $8,000 in scholarship funds for viticulture and enology students east of the Rocky Mountains. A silent auction of tast- ing room, winery and vineyard items raised more than $3,500. EWE will return to the convention center in Syracuse, N.Y. from March 19 to 21, 2019. SUPPLIER NEWS G3 acquires ColloPack G3 Enterprises in Modesto, Calif., has acquired the winemaking equipment and supplies dealer Col- loPack Solutions. ColloPack sells and distributes equipment from a number of suppliers including Albrigi, Bertolaso, Bortolinkemo, Di- emme and Francesca. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed by G3, which sells packaging supplies and logistics services. Asimont named CEO of VinSense Lise Asimont is the new CEO and head viticulturist of VinSense Tech- nology. Asimont is a past president of the American Society for Enol- ogy and Viticulture and currently serves on the group's board. She also serves as a committee chair in program development for the Uni- fied Wine and Grape Symposium and is a member of the UWGS Managing LLC. Prior to joining Vin- Sense, Asimont was the director of grower relations for Francis Ford Coppola Winery in Geyserville. Promotions at Cork Supply USA Cork Supply USA in Benicia, Calif. promoted Peter Hladun to vice presi- dent and general manager of Cork Supply USA. In his new role, Hladun will lead the development and imple- mentation of the strategic plan for the closure supplier and report directly to the company's founder and CEO Jochen Michalski. The company also announced Monika Michalski is the global brand manager for Cork Sup- ply Group and will lead all marketing and communications for the Cork Supply brand and products. Greg Hirson was promoted to the post of senior technical services director and will continue to oversee quality con- trol for Cork Supply USA and its coo- perage Tonnellerie Ô. Tom Godfrey is the new director of operations for Cork Supply USA and Dinah Palaima is the new human resources director. Peter Hladun
