After his mili- tary service, Moynier earned a degree from the University of Cal- ifornia, Davis, and then worked at C. Mondavi & Family in St. Helena for more than 30 years. The Mondavi company created the Purple Heart brand in 2016 to honor those who have served in the military. Since its launch, the brand has donated $30,000 to the Purple Heart Foundation. Winemaker resigning from Lula Cellars Jeff Hansen is stepping down as winemaker at Lula Cellars in Philo. Hansen founded the win- ery in 2010 and named it after his grandmother. He will retain the title of founder and serve as winemaker emeritus and con- sultant. Prior to founding Lula, Hansen had made wine at Amici Cellars in Calistoga since 1991 and sold his interest in the winery in 2009 before founding Lula in Anderson Valley. CAWG honors Lange brothers and Scheid The California Association of Winegrape Growers (CAWG) selected Bradford and Randall Lange of LangeTwins Family Winery and Vineyards in Lodi as the Grower(s) of the Year and Al Scheid of Scheid Vineyards in Monterey County as the Leader of the Year. The Lange broth- ers have been farming together since 1974, and CAWG noted their innovation and commitment to sustainability in the statement announcing the awards. Scheid is the chairman of Scheid Vineyards in Greenfield and co-founder of CAWG and the Monterey County Vintners and Growers Associa- tion as well as a member of the group of growers and vintners that helped created the California Grape Crush Report. Torkelson named CEO, president at Trinchero Bob Torkelson is the new presi- dent and chief executive officer (CEO) of Trinchero Family Estates in Napa. Torkelson will be taking over leadership of the company from Roger Trinchero, who is retiring from the role of CEO, but will still remain chairman of the board of directors. Torkel- son, previously TFE's president and chief operating officer, was described in a winery statement as "instrumental in growing the business that is now the sec- ond-largest family-owned wine business in the United States." Trinchero originally hired Torkel- son in December 1996 as vice president of sales in the central division, based in Chicago, Ill. In 2004, Torkelson was promoted to president of TFE. Saintsbury founder dies Richard Ward, co-founder of Saintsbury Winery, died May 27 due to complications from a bone marrow transplant. He was 67 years old. Ward and his business partner, David Graves, founded Saintsbury in 1981 with the goal of producing wines made with Burgundian varieties. Ward served on the boards of directors of the California Wine Institute, Napa Valley Vintners, Napa Valley Opera House, di Rosa art preserve and Tower Road Wine Co-op. He is survived by his wife, Linda Reiff, and two children, Philippa Ward and Trent Ward. New GM at Senses Chelsea Boss is the new general manager of Senses Wines in Oc- cidental.
