Key Indicators Complete data is available at winesandvines.com/metrics S ales of U.S. wine rose to $3.1 billion in May 2017, up 3% from May 2016, market-research firm bw166 reported. Sales for the 12 months ended May 2017 ap- proached $40 billion, also up 3% from a year earlier. Domestic sparkling wine sales in- creased 10% in April 2017 versus April 2016, on par with 12-month growth. Bulk imports rose 8% in May 2017 versus May 2016, but sales remained soft in the most recent 12 months, down 2% versus the same period a year ago. Bulk wine sales have exhibited a deceleration in recent months, with the 12-month tally for sales declining in each month since January. While the de- cline moderated marginally in May 2017, the strength of the market nevertheless lies with domestic wines. Similar to last month, growth across all market segments was steady at 3%. This translated into total wine sales, including packaged imports, of $60 billion in the 12 months ended May 2017. Packaged imports accounted for slightly more than a third of the total for the period, with domestic wines posting a marginal increase in their share of the market. However, overall growth in do- mestic wines was nearly twice that of pack- aged imports. —Peter Mitham U.S. Wine Sales Winery Job Index MONTH May 2017 421 May 2016 365 12 MONTHS May 2017 293 May 2016 275 MONTHLY INDEX 7% May U.S. Wine Sales Post 3% Growth Source: winejobs.com Winejobs.com Index 500 400 300 200 100 0 2017 2016 Jun Jul Aug Sep Oct Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr May 15% METRICS 10 WINES&VINES July 2017 Off-Premise Sales IRI Channels MONTH May 2017 $642M May 2016 $630M 12 MONTHS May 2017 $8,718M May 2016 $8,390M MONTHLY SALES U.S. Wine Sales MONTH May 2017 $3,104M May 2016 $3,001M 12 MONTHS May 2017 $39,863M May 2016 $38,644M MONTHLY SALES 2% 4% 3% 3% Direct-to-Consumer Shipments MONTH May 2017 $213M May 2016 $183M 12 MONTHS May 2017 $2,492M May 2016 $2,111M MONTHLY SHIPMENTS 18% 16% Source: , Wines Vines Analytics.
