26 WINES&VINES May 2017 WINE INDUSTRY NEWS CALIFORNIA Suzanne Groth named president of Groth Vineyards Suzanne Groth was promoted to the role of president and CEO of Oakville-based Groth Vineyards, which her parents Dennis and Judy Groth founded in 1991. After spending four years with the Henry Wine Group, a California wine dis- tributor, Suzanne Groth joined the family business in 1998 working in wine sales and public relations. In 2009, she was promoted to vice president of sales and marketing. In her new role, Groth will directly supervise the winemaking team, vineyard management, finance and sales and marketing teams. Joy promoted to VP for SMWE in California Ste. Michelle Wine Estates ap- pointed Russell Joy to the position of vice president of California oper- ations. In this role, Joy will oversee operations at Stag's Leap Wine Cel- lars in Napa, Patz & Hall in Sonoma and Conn Creek Winery in St. Hel- ena. For the past 11 years, Joy was vice president and general manager for Patz & Hall, and prior to that, he was chief finance officer of Viansa and Sebastiani wineries. Joy cur- rently serves as vice president of the Sonoma County Vintners and is a fourth-generation grapegrower. New winemaker, GM at BV Trevor Durling is the new general manager and chief winemaker for Beaulieu Vineyard (BV). Prior to taking the post at BV, Durling was the winemaker for Provenance and Hewitt. BV, Provenance and Hewitt have all been part of Treasury Wine Estates since its acquisition of the Diageo wine group in 2015. Jeffrey Stambor, who joined BV in 1989 and has led the winery for nearly three decades, is leaving but will serve for the next few months as brand ambassador. Durling, a Sonoma County native, graduated from the University of California, Davis, after studying viticulture and enology. He worked harvests at Sonoma-Cutrer and Gloria Ferrer before joining organic producer Moon Mountain Vineyard in So- noma Valley, where he focused on Bordeaux variety wines. He joined Provenance in 2010. Ted Hall named Napa Grower of the Year The Napa Valley Grapegrowers named Rutherford grower Ted Hall of Long Meadow Ranch the 2017 Napa Valley Grower of the Year. Hall has been president and CEO of Long Meadow Ranch since 1989 and currently serves on the Napa Valley Grapegrowers (NVG) board of directors, where he is an active member of the NVG Industry Issues Committee. In 2016, Hall chaired the Napa County Agriculture Protection Advisory Committee, which met for more than nine months to dis- cuss the future of agriculture in Napa Valley. Silver Trident names GM Shane Soldinger was promoted to general manager of Silver Tri- dent Winery in Napa. Soldinger was the first employee hired by Silver Trident founders Bob Binder and Walter Jost when they launched the winery in 2015. Prior to joining Silver Trident, Soldinger was the general man- ager of Cosentino Winery and director of sales and marketing for Crocker & Starr Wines.
