Before working at Double Canyon, Pao spent three years working in production at Justin Vineyards and Winery in Paso Robles, Calif. Founded in 1986, Fortis Vineyards produces estate-grown Alsace vari- ety white wines and Pinot Noir from 140 acres of estate vineyards. Double Canyon hires new winemaker Kate Michaud is the new wine- maker of Double Canyon Vineyards in West Richland, Wash. Michaud will direct and oversee all winemak- ing operations. Before joining Dou- ble Canyon, Michaud made wines through Naked Wines, and prior to that she was winemaker at Covey Run. Michaud joins the company, which is part of the Napa, Calif.- based Crimson Wine Group, as it currently is building a new winery near its Double Canyon Vineyard in the Horse Heaven Hills appellation. Day Wines opens new tasting room in Oregon Brianne Day, founder and wine- maker of Day Wines, opened a new tasting room in her coopera- tive winemaking facility in Dundee, Ore., known as Day Camp. The facility is home to nearly a dozen wineries, and the new tasting room will feature Day's wines as well as those of the other wineries. Washington auction raises $145,000 The 2017 Party + Auction held Feb. 8 in Kennewick, Wash., raised more than $145,000 for the Wash- ington Wine Industry Foundation's programs to support the state's wine industry through research and education. More than 300 people attended the event and bid on auc- tion items that included winemaker dinners, cruises and private tours. New CEO at Adelsheim Vineyard Joth Ricci is the new CEO of Adelsheim Vineyard taking over day-to-day operations of the es- tate winery from founder David Adelsheim, who plans to stay involved with distribution and ex- port sales, long-term planning and remains chairman of the winery's board. Before joining Adelsheim, Ricci was the president of Stump- town Coffee Roasters in Portland, Ore., and prior to that he was a managing partner with First Bever- age Group. Ricci is also a member of the boards of Ninkasi Brewing and Willamette Valley Vineyards. Quails' Gate wins management honor Quails' Gate winery in West Kelowna, B.C., was named one of Canada's Best Managed Companies. The program honors Canadian-owned companies with revenues of more than $15 million that demonstrate "strategy, capa- bility and commitment to achieving sustainable growth." The program conferred the designation to 45 companies across Canada in 2017. EAST White Horse names winemaker and COO Seferino Cotzojay is the new wine- maker of White Horse Winery in Hammonton, N.J. Cotzojay previ- ously was the winemaker at Bedell Cellars in New York. The winery also appointed Gar J. Simers as chief operating officer.
