Terry McAuliffe presented the 2017 Virginia Wineries Associa- tion Governor's Cup to The Barns at Hamilton Station Vineyards for its 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon. The awards ceremony took place Feb. 21 in Richmond, Va. The winning wine was selected from the 2017 Governor's Cup Case, a selection of the 12 top-scoring wines chosen from 494 entries of both red and white wines from 102 wineries. Any wine made from 100% Virginia fruit was eligible for the competition. Arkansas moves forward on expanded wine sales A bill expanding which wines can be sold in Arkansas grocery stores is headed to the governor after being approved by both the state House of Representatives and Sen- ate. The state previously had limited grocery stores to only sell wine pro- duced by wineries making less than 250,000 gallons of wine per year. The bill, sponsored by Wal-Mart, would allow grocery stores to stock wines from any wine company. SUPPLIER myEnologist adds more analytical services Napa, Calif.-based myEnologist announced it is now offering more analytical services. The company added turbidity (NTU), Brettano- myces, free sulfur dioxide on juice samples and stability tests for heat, Bentonite fining trials, Davis conductivity test, degree of tartrate instability and ISTC50. The analy- ses require one sample per test. Scott Labs hires operations manager Elton Yu is the new operations and facilities manager at Scott Labora- tories in Petaluma, Calif. Yu has 20 years of experience in logistics and supply-chain management from his service in the U.S. Marine Corps. Scott Laboratories recently moved into a new, 85,000-square-foot build- ing, and Yu will oversee an inventory- tracking and documentation system for the company's clients. New rep at Valentin Antoine Dupont Calderon is the new sales and service associate at Sonoma, Calif.-based Valentin Thierion Corp. Calderon previ- ously worked at several wineries in California and received training in Epernay, France on the company's line of specialized equipment for producing sparkling wine. Sales consultants join Cork Supply Cork Supply of Benicia, Calif., an- nounced the addition of two new sales consultants. Sam Parrague will be responsible for the com- pany's cork and closures custom- ers throughout Sonoma, and Joey Castagnola will cover accounts in Napa and California's Central Valley. Castagnola joins Cork Supply from Southern Glazer's Wine & Spirits, where he served as chain sales mer- chandiser for Constellation brands, and Parrague most recently worked at Fathom, where he managed 3D printing and manufacturing. Portocork adds account manager Napa, Calif.-based cork supplier Portocork hired Daniel Bishof- berger to its sales team as account manager. He joins Portocork after more than nine years of wine in- dustry experience including wine sales, wine technology sales and most recently with wine marketing firm Chatterbox Wine Marketing Services. Bishofberger will manage accounts in Napa and Sonoma counties for Portocork and key ac- counts across the United States. CORRECTION The graph on page 32 of the March 2017 issue incorrectly identified the amount of pesticides applied to vineyards in California's Sacramento and San Joaquin counties.
