I should have focused my business to perhaps just Tempranillo, but it is hard to give up these other great site-matched varieties. "Tempranillo and Albariño are our most successful wines, with Malbec and Syrah making very fine wines, but we also produce several other wines including a Douro-style Port. "Having multiple wines leads to another good decision: to have a tasting room and a large wine club, which accounts for the sale of these other wines. "Had we done it by jumping in with both feet 23 years ago, doing everything at once, I am pretty sure it would have been a disaster. "The beauty of staying small (3,800 cases per year), building it incrementally, has been key to our sustainability. A bad decision was perhaps passing on buying some vineyard land nearby.
