Consumer expenditures for all wines on-premise and off-premise, 12 months through September 2018. Excludes cider. Key Indicators Complete data is available at winesandvines.com/metrics. U .S. wine sales rose 3% from a year ago to $3.8 billion in September, market research firm bw166 reported. Table and sparkling wines each increased 3% in the month, rising to $3.6 billion and $194 million, respectively. The increases were part of a series of "better trends" bw166 noted in sales as domestic wines gained ground over imported wines. Nevertheless, imported sparkling wines continued to enjoy some of the strongest sales growth, at nearly 11%. Total wine sales in the U.S. rose 6% in the latest 12 months to $70.5 billion. Domestic wine sales rose 5% in the period to $47 billion, led by 4% growth in table wines and 3% growth among sparkling wines. Packaged im- ports increased 8% to $23.5 billion, adding $1.8 billion in sales, but this was topped by an additional $1.9 billion in sales of domestic table wines. Growth in bulk imports, a compo- nent of domestic wine sales, was muted. The segment increased 12% in the latest 12 months, representing 6% of value, but rose just 3% in the latest month, when it accounted for a scant 1% of value. —Peter Mitham U.S. Wine Sales Winery Job Index MONTH September 2018 218 September 2017 216 12 MONTHS September 2018 336 September 2017 314 MONTHLY INDEX 7% September U.S. Wine Sales up 3% Source: winejobs.com Winejobs.com Index 500 400 300 200 100 0 2018 2017 Oct Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sep 2017 1%
