The growth was spurred by rosé wines and hinged on sales of wines priced $11- $19.99 per bottle; the top half of the segment ($15-$19.99) saw the strongest growth rate, at 29%, while the bottom half ($11-$14.99) saw biggest growth in dollar sales, with an additional $1 million. Case volume increased 13%, while the average bottle price gained 33 cents to reach $11.76. France is now the fifth-largest source of table wines in stores tracked by IRI. Best-Performing Price Segment $11-$14.99 The ongoing shift to premium wines continued in 2017, with price seg- ments below $8 per bottle losing ground in the off-premise locations tracked by IRI. Wines selling for more than $20 per bottle enjoyed the strongest growth rate, rising 16% compared to the previous year. Yet the biggest absolute gain in dollar terms was in the $11-$14.99 seg- ment, which added $75 million in sales in the most recent 12 months, rising by 6%. THE BIGGEST AND BEST OF 2O17
