EAST Wiemer buys Standing Stone Hermann J. Wiemer winery is buy- ing Standing Stone Vineyards and 50 acres of vineyards. Standing Stone was owned by Martha and Tom Macinski, who will continue to operate the business that will remain a separate brand and entity from Hermann J. Wiemer. Both wineries are located in the Finger Lakes region of New York. Wayne Gretzky opens winery Hockey legend Wayne Gretzky and partner Andrew Peller Lim- ited announced the new Wayne Gretzky Estates Winery & Distillery is now open in Niagara-on-the- Lake, Ontario. The 23,000-square- foot facility includes a winery and distillery as well as barrel storage and space for hospitality and retail. Winemaking is managed by vice president and winemaker Craig McDonald, who was the founder/winemaker for Wayne Gretzky Wines and now also oversees national winemaking for Andrew Peller. SUPPLIER Wolfe joins Cork Supply Drew Wolfe joined Cork Supply USA as strategic accounts con- sultant. Wolfe will be working with the company's three sales divi- sions—closures, capsules and oak (Tonnellerie Ô barrels and Creative Oak alternatives)—"to maximize cross-selling efforts." Wolfe previ- ously worked in vineyard opera- tions as a viticulturist and most recently served as production and supply manager at Cameron Hughes Wine. New partner at Beverage World Michael Ditch, who launched the Bacchus Wine Division of Repub- lic National Distributing Co., has joined the new distributor Bever- age World Specialties in Denver, Colo., as partner, vice president and director of wines. Ditch worked for Republic for nearly 20 years and will be working on expanding the Beverage World Specialties portfolio of wines. Investment group acquires WineBid A group of investors led by Third Leaf Partners will acquire Napa, Calif.-based online wine auction company WineBid. Established in 1996, WineBid has more than 90,000 registered bidders. Third Leaf, based in San Francisco, owns a portfolio of beverage and hospitality companies. CORRECTIONS A news story in the June 2017 issue of Wines & Vines contained an error. Winemaker Justin Meyer was a member of the Christian Brothers order of teaching broth- ers, not a monk.
