Sapporo Winemaker consults at Londer Vineyards Eric Stern is the new consulting wine- maker at Londer Vineyards, which pro- duces Pinot Noir and Gewurztraminer from Anderson Valley. The Ficklin family accepts a Wine Lifetime Achievement Award with winery staff. Tokyo Nagoya Osaka shima n State fair confers wine awards The Ficklin family, owners of Ficklin Vine- yards near Madera and makers of fortified wines, earned the 2012 Lifetime Achieve- ment Award from the California State Fair on July 6. Dr. Maynard Amerine and Dr. Ralph Kunkee, two instrumental University of California, Davis, researchers in wine sci- ence, received posthumous lifetime achieve- ment awards. The Monte Rosso Vineyard in Sonoma Valley was named Vineyard of Bluxome Street Winery names winemaker Webster Marquez is the new winemaker at the Bluxome Street Winery located in San Francisco. The firm's vineyards in the North Coast are certified with the Cali- fornia Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance, and its vineyards in the Central Coast are certified through Sustainability in Practice. Treasury owns approximately 6,000 acres in California. Details: tweglobal.com. NORTHWEST Ste. Michelle partners on rail depot Ste. Michelle Wine Es- tates has teamed with Railex LLC to build a temperature-controlled distribution center. Rai- lex is investing between $18 million and $20 million to build and operate a 500,000-square-foot distribution center in Wallula, Wash. The center is sched- uled to open in February 2013. St. Michelle signed a long-term lease for the majority of the warehouse space. Railex currently op- erates a rail system linking Wallula and a Delano, Calif., center to a location in Rot- terdam, N.Y.
