Stokely earned a master's degree in horticulture with an emphasis on vi- Kelli Stokely ticulture from Oregon State University this year and worked at OSU and Lemelson Vineyards before joining Adelsheim. De- tails: adelsheim.com. Charles Smith hires sales director Heather Yargus joined Walla Walla, Wash.-based Charles Smith Wines as sales director for the Great Lakes region. Mick and Loretta McDowell, the owners and founders of the winery, were asleep inside the building at the time of the fire but were able to escape uninjured. Michigan winery set to open Hawthorne Vineyards in Traverse City, Mich., planned to hold a "soft opening" Aug. 1. Owners Bruce and Cathleen Hawthorn planted 26 acres of vinifera vines on their Old Mission Penin- sula property. The winery and tasting room, scheduled to be completed in May 2013, will be operated through a partnership with Chateau Chan- tal. Details: hawthornevineyards.com.
