Key Indicators Complete data is available at winesandvines.com/metrics. U .S. wine sales, both domestic and bulk imports, were flat at $2.8 billion in February versus a year earlier, market research firm bw166 reported. Consumers spent $15 million less than in February 2017 but rounding left the tally unchanged. The 12-month sales total rose 1% from a year ago to $41 billion. Domestic sparkling wine gained 5% in both the month and the latest 12 months. Table wines were the weak spot, with sales slipping 1% in February. By contrast, packaged imports rose 4% in the month and 5% in the latest 12 months, helping boost total 12-month wine sales 2% to $62 billion. Domestic wine sales are typically twice those of packaged imports on a yearly basis, but February saw domestic wines exceed the standard ratio at 2.2 times. This suggests a dominant position relative to imports, but the decline in February pointed to head- winds – what bw166 managing director Jon Moramarco called a slow start to the year for U.S. wines. Sparkling wine sales exhib- ited a similar phenomenon, with sales of imports increasing at twice the rate of U.S. sparkling wine. —Peter Mitham U.S. Wine Sales Winery Job Index MONTH February 2018 378 February 2017 321 12 MONTHS February 2018 325 February 2017 294 MONTHLY INDEX 11% Domestic Wines Flat as Imports Rise Source: winejobs.com Winejobs.com Index 500 400 300 200 100 0 2018 2017 Mar Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sep Oct Nov Dec Jan Feb 18% METRICS 10 WINES&VINES April 2018 Off-Premise Sales IRI Channels MONTH February 2018 $682M February 2017 $673M 12 MONTHS February 2018 $8,861M February 2017 $8,648M MONTHLY SALES U.S. Wine Sales MONTH February 2018 $2,758M February 2017 $2,773M 12 MONTHS February 2018 $40,818M February 2017 $40,522M MONTHLY SALES 1% 2% 1% <1% Direct-to-Consumer Shipments MONTH February 2018 $249M February 2017 $239M 12 MONTHS February 2018 $2,726M February 2017 $2,409M MONTHLY SHIPMENTS 13% 4% Source: , Wines Vines Analytics.
