Key Indicators Complete data is available at winesandvines.com/metrics. U .S. wine sales, both domestic and bulk imports, rose 3% to $2.8 billion in January, market-research firm bw166 reported. The increase versus a year ago came during a traditionally slow sales season. The latest 12 months saw domestic wine sales near $42 billion, up 2% from a year ago. Sales of packaged imports continued to post strong growth, increasing 4%, or double the pace of domestic wine sales. An extra $885 million in packaged imports sold during the most recent 12 months, while domestic wines and bulk imports added just $733 million in sales. Total wine sales approached $63 billion in the 12 months through January, rising 3% from a year earlier. The desire of wine companies to secure supplies in a tighter global market to meet strengthening domestic sales continued to see bulk imports grow at double-digit rates. Bulk imports are a relatively small component of the U.S. market, with $55 million in sales in January and $2.4 billion in the latest 12 months. Growth is significant, however, at 22% for the month and 18% for the year. The trend, ongoing since last summer, has moderated in recent months but remains strong. —Peter Mitham U.S. Wine Sales Winery Job Index MONTH January 2018 329 January 2017 279 12 MONTHS January 2018 321 January 2017 294 MONTHLY INDEX 9% U.S. Wine Sales Up 3% in January Source: winejobs.com Winejobs.com Index 500 400 300 200 100 0 2018 2017 Feb Mar Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sep Oct Nov Dec Jan 18% METRICS 10 WINES&VINES March 2018 Off-Premise Sales IRI Channels MONTH January 2018 $657M January 2017 $635M 12 MONTHS January 2018 $8,852M January 2017 $8,629M MONTHLY SALES U.S. Wine Sales MONTH January 2018 $2,790M January 2017 $2,715M 12 MONTHS January 2018 $41,606M January 2017 $40,872M MONTHLY SALES 3% 3% 2% 3% Direct-to-Consumer Shipments MONTH January 2018 $126M January 2017 $100M 12 MONTHS January 2018 $2,717M January 2017 $2,345M MONTHLY SHIPMENTS 16% 25% Source: , Wines Vines Analytics.
