Key Indicators Complete data is available at winesandvines.com/metrics. S ales of U.S. wine totaled $3.6 billion in October, according to market-research firm bw166, up 4% from a year earlier. Sales for the 12 months ended October also rose 4%, topping $41 billion. Total sales of domestic wines and packaged imports rose 5% in October versus a year earlier to more than $62 billion. Packaged imports outpaced the average with growth of 6%, thanks primarily to French wines and, in particular, rosé. Bulk imports continued to grow at a dou- ble-digit rate, rising 27% in October versus a year earlier and 17% in the most recent 12 months. The surge could taper off in early 2018, bw166 managing partner Jon Mora- marco said, as vintners recalibrate supplies. The current surge is being driven by the strength of 3-liter box wines, and demand for New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc to fill them. Growth in domestic sparkling wine remained steady, with sales up 8% in October and 7% in the previous 12 months. The strength of packaged imports during the past 12 months extends to sparkling wines, with imports of these (led by Italy's La Marca Pro- secco) up 11% in both the latest month and latest 12 months. —Peter Mitham U.S. Wine Sales Winery Job Index MONTH October 2017 153 October 2016 166 12 MONTHS October 2017 292 October 2016 280 MONTHLY INDEX 4% U.S. Wine Sales Rise 4% in October Source: winejobs.com Winejobs.com Index 500 400 300 200 100 0 2017 2016 Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sep Oct -8% METRICS 10 WINES&VINES December 2017 Off-Premise Sales IRI Channels MONTH October 2017 $637M October 2016 $635M 12 MONTHS October 2017 $8,788M October 2016 $8,536M MONTHLY SALES U.S. Wine Sales MONTH October 2017 $3,594M October 2016 $3,462M 12 MONTHS October 2017 $41,099M October 2016 $39,600M MONTHLY SALES 0% 3% 4% 4% Direct-to-Consumer Shipments MONTH October 2017 $395M October 2016 $391M 12 MONTHS October 2017 $2,574M October 2016 $2,299M MONTHLY SHIPMENTS 12% 1% Source: , Wines Vines Analytics.
