WINERY & VINEYARD EQUIPMENT 52 WINES&VINES October 2017 Wines & Vines checked with bottling line suppliers to see what new equipment is available or just debuted in the North American market for all stages of the bottling process. PRODUCT FOCUS New Bottling Equipment Suppliers unveil new machines for closures, labels and casing By Andrew Adams Impresstik The Wines & Vines Product Focus feature is not intended to provide a definitive listing of all available products in a particular segment or provide any comparative analysis, but rather serve as an overview of what's new or available and also of potential interest to readers as determined by the magazine's editorial staff. IMPRESSTIK Labeling machine manufacturer Impresstik developed the R6 ro- tary labeler that can label 150 bottles per minute and occupies a small footprint. The supplier reports the machine is ideal for mobile bottling lines or wineries and can be used as an inline machine to run front and back labels from a single roll via a vacuum belt unit at the ma- chine outfeed and by selecting "2 label with gap" on the touch- screen control panel. The R6 also features labeling heads that fold inward when not in use. The machine can also perform mechanical or optical orienta- tion and label non-cylindrical containers. Impresstick also un- veiled the VAC3001, which is a compact version of its popular VAC3000. The smaller VAC3001 runs at 70 bottles per minute or less for smaller wineries or mo- bile bottlers. impresstiklabelers.com LOGICS & CONTROLS Collopack in Napa, Calif., is now offering the Logilook label- inspection and quality-control machine by Italian manufac- turer Logics & Controls. The machine inspects all labels re- gardless of how a bottle is ori- ented with a 360° inspection system that employs a high-res- olution camera and software, which is also produced by Log- ics & Controls. The machine can be added to any existing bot- tling line and handle speeds of more than 600 bottles per min- ute and detect a label skew of 0.2° and placement variations of 0.3 mm and 0.6 mm for la- bels on opposite sides of the bottle. Up to 1,000 bottle for- mats can be stored on the ma- chine's memory, and size changeovers just require a saved bottle code. Operators can also create custom inspec- tion programs and focus on de- tails such as text, codes and even alcohol content. collopack.com MAKRO Packaging equipment distribu- tor MBF North America in Peta- luma, Calif., is now offering the new MAK AHS2 self-adhesive labeling module by Italian sup- plier Makro Labeling. The man- ufacturer reports it developed the machine after receiving a request for a labeler that could handle a short label at speeds of 700 bottles per minute. To do so, Makro patented a unique system based on increasing the distance available for label ac- celeration and reducing the force needed for label applica- tion with a motorized label reel. The result was a highly stable and fast labeler that was further improved with adjustable damping roller reaction force and an automatic function for speed adaption. mbfnorthamerica.com NORTAN The new pneumatic spinning head for capsules by Italian sup- plier Nortan eliminates the elas- tic and spring-based rollers that have typically smoothed cap- sules after application. A pneu- matic actuator in the external body of the spinning head pro- vides enough air pressure to smooth the capsule. The air pressure can be varied by a sole- noid valve operated via touch- screen. The new head is designed to eliminate the lengthy setup times often re- quired by previous rollers and make it easy to use different capsules with the same machine. An enhanced programmable logic controller also autono- mously ensures optimal rolling conditions, and the head also can operate with any number of revolutions without affecting smoothing quality. Available as a stand-alone machine or to be integrated into a bottling line. Distributed through Criveller Group California and Scott Laboratories. criveller.com, scottlab.com
