March 2017 WINES&VINES 25 WINE INDUSTRY NEWS since I don't really work." Knox will be consulting for Francois Freres while members of his team take over sales. Moke Berg is now rep- resenting Taransaud and Kadar, and Julie Guffy will be managing Fran- cois Freres USA. Guffy has opened an office in Napa, Calif., and hired David Sheffer to help with sales. Free Flow partners with Gotham Project The Gotham Project and Free Flow Wines have opened a new kegging operation the two companies own and manage together to serve the eastern United States. Filling Sta- tion East is located in Bayonne, N.J., and will keg imported wines in reusable, stainless steel kegs. According to the statement an- nouncing the new facility, the col- laboration enables Gotham Project and Napa, Calif.-based Free Flow Wines to create a coast-to-coast national platform with a dedi- cated fleet of more than 150,000 stainless steel kegs. The new 12,000-square-foot facility will also act as an East Coast hub for wine- on-tap training, education and marketing. Both Gotham Project and Free Flow have spent the past seven years pioneering the wine- on-tap market, which is on track to exceed 300,000 kegs (equivalent to 650,000 9-liter cases) in 2017. Parramon to conduct individual cork screening Catalonian cork supplier Parra- mon, which has an office in Napa, Calif., is now conducting individual screening on all of the corks it sells in North America and is guarantee- ing those corks will be free of TCA contamination. The supplier is call- ing its new system "Protocol Zero," which involves a unique electronic detection device that Parramon claims is accurate to less than 0.5 ng/L. Because it runs its production line slower than other cork suppli- ers, Parramon says it can conduct continuous in-line screening rather than batch-by-batch analysis. Corks that pass the screening device continue in the production process and are then packaged in sealed bags for shipping. Palmateer acquires Presidio Gate Wine Merchants Palmateer Wine Group of San Rafael, Calif., acquired Presidio Gate Wine Merchants of Northern California. Presidio Gate has a portfolio of domestic and imported wines that it sells to retailers and restaurants throughout California through its network of brokers. It was founded in 1980 by wine in- dustry veteran Thomas Brown. Pal- mateer Wine Group sells domestic and foreign wine across the United States through its national sales team and executes innovative and comprehensive go-to-market strat- egies for wineries. New account manager at Portocork Napa, Calif.-based cork supplier Portocork hired Daniel Bishof- berger to its sales team as account manager. Daniel joins Portocork after more than nine years of wine industry experience including wine sales, wine technology sales and most recently with wine marketing firm Chatterbox Wine Marketing Services.
