CENTRAL 'Stewardship' certification in Missouri St. James Winery in St. James, Mo., earned the Missouri De- partment of Agriculture's new specialty crop Agriculture Stew- ardship Assurance Program (ASAP) certification. The new certification "champions Mis- souri farmers who are responsible stewards of the land, provide safe food for consumers, practice environmental stewardship and use science-based technology for growing safe and dependable feed, fuel, specialty crops or fiber in a socially and economic man- ner," according to a statement by the winery. The winery has 185 acres of vineyards and uses moisture probes to monitor irriga- tion efficiently, uses cover crops to mitigate erosion and reuses pomace as mulch, among other management practices. EAST Terhune Orchards opens wine-production facility After five years of regulatory and construction hassles, delays and problems, Gary and Pam Mount opened the new Terhune "wine barn" Dec. 10. Three generations of the Mount family welcomed visi- tors to the farm outside Princeton, N.J., that became the you-pick Terhune Orchards in 1975. Terhune has 4.5 acres planted to 12 variet- ies of grapes and made their first wine in 2010. Local Amish contrac- tors built the 3,500-square-foot building with beams and ceilings high enough to accommodate tanks in a variety of sizes. WineAmerica hires Trezise Jim Trezise is the new president of lobbying group WineAmerica. Trezise is transitioning from his 31-year position as president of the New York Wine & Grape Foun- dation to an increased role with WineAmerica. Trezise will remain president of the International Ries- ling Foundation, judging in major wine competitions, and continue his involvement with other wine industry organizations and activi- ties. WineAmerica is the national organization of American winer- ies, representing wine producer members from 43 states with grassroots public policy advocacy in Washington, D.C. Trezise will be working with the group's current staff and travel to Washington as needed but will continue to work from upstate New York on a day- to-day basis. Vinous buys wine apps Vinous, the New York-based wine- review website founded by critic Antonio Galloni, has acquired the wine apps Delectable and Ban- quet.
