SUPPLIER Saxco buys Brick Packaging Saxco International in Horsham, Pa., acquired Brick Packaging Corp. in Traverse City, Mich. Founded by Dan Brick, who started by selling natural corks, Brick Packaging supplies a variety of packaging materials for the wine industry. Bronco to use Helix closure Bronco Wine Co. in Modesto, Calif., will be the first U.S. wine company to use the new Helix closure developed by glass supplier O-I and cork producer Amorim. The Helix is a "twist-to- open" cork stopper that fits a specially designed bottle. O-I and Amorim developed the closure to combine the benefits of cork and glass with the ease of a twist-off closure that can also be used to reseal the bottle. The Helix debuted in 2013 at Vinexpo in Bordeaux, France, and will now ap- pear on retail shelves in the United States as the closure for Bronco's Red Truck brand. Amorim and O-I note that the Helix provides the "sat- isfying pop" as the cork is released, which the companies say is still an intrinsic part of the wine experience for many consumers.
