METRICS 12 WINES&VINES October 2016 Flash Offers Remain Flat The Flash Report Complete flash data is available at winesandvines.com/flash T he decline in offers this month likely stemmed from the fact that WineShop- per, which was acquired by Wine.com more than decade ago, is no longer operating as a separate site, and Lot 18 and Wine Woot both made fewer offers than normal. Cabernet Sauvignon, especially Napa County Cabernet, accounts for a big chunk of the wines offered by flash websites, which resell wines at large discounts for a limited amount of time. Nearly 25% of all offers were for Cabernet, and more than half of those came from Napa County wineries. Flash websites offered more Cabernets from other regions of California than from Sonoma County. Just like offers for other types of wines, the number of offers has declined. Flash offers for Cabernet in 2016 fell 4% compared to the previous year. Most of the Cabernet wines of- fered by the websites had a flash price of less than $40. Flash websites continue to offer more Cab- ernet wines with flash prices higher than $100.
