September 2016 WINES&VINES 23 WINE INDUSTRY NEWS Pellegrini names executive vice president Fred Reno is the new executive vice president of the Pellegrini Wine Co. in Santa Rosa. Reno has nearly 40 years of wine industry experience and most recently was the director of the West Burgundy Wine Group division of Jackson Family Wines. The Pellegrini family owns the Olivet Lane Vineyard and winery in the Russian River Valley AVA. New winemaker at Sextant Wines Michael Fay is the new lead winemaker at Sextant Wines in Paso Robles. Fay will work with owner Craig Stoller in managing produc- tion at the Central Coast winery. Prior to joining Sextant, Fay was the winemaker for Goldeneye Winery in Philo (Mendocino County) and has worked at other wineries in the Central Coast. Ray Johnson promoted at SSU Ray Johnson has been promoted from direc- tor to executive director of the Wine Business Institute of Sonoma State University's School of Business and Economics in Rohnert Park. John- son will be responsible for programs and events at the future Wine Spectator Learning Center, which is scheduled to open in 2017. During his tenure as director, Johnson oversaw a signifi- cant increase in annual enrollment and secured more than $10 million in donations to support wine business education and research and expanded access for students to wine industry careers, scholarships and internships. New assistant winemaker at Cline Tom Gendall is the new assistant winemaker at Cline Family Cellars in Sonoma. Gendall will be working alongside winemaker Charlie Tsegeletos to produce Cline Family Cellars' portfolio of Zinfandels, Rhône varieties, Char- donnay and Pinot Noir. Gendall joins Cline from Sojourn Cellars. A native of New Zealand, Gendall gained winemaking experience in New Zealand, Germany and in Napa Valley (Bryant Family Vineyards) and Sonoma County (Arro- wood Vineyards). NORTHWEST Winemaker promotion at Milbrandt Milbrandt Vineyards in Mattawa, Wash., pro- moted Emily Haines to the post of head wine- maker. Haines attended Eastern Washington University and graduated with a double major in biology and chemistry and worked at Desert Wind Winery in Prosser, Wash., during the 2008 harvest. Haines joined Milbrandt in July 2009 as a lab tech and took over white winemaking for the 2011 harvest.
