"Pete" Downs is the new acting president of the Sacra- mento-based Family Winemakers of California, which represents more than 400 wineries, most of which are family owned and pro- duce less than 5,000 cases per year. After working at Jackson Family Wines for 20 years, Downs retired in 2012 to launch his own consulting firm. He has been an active board member of Family Winemakers and head of the legis- lative committee. Third generation joins Rombauer Reagan Rombauer Blackwood, granddaughter of Rombauer Vine- yards founder Koerner Rombauer, has joined the Napa Valley winery as assistant regional sales repre- sentative, becoming the first mem- ber of the family's third generation to be employed at the winery. In her new role, Blackwood will be based in Las Vegas, Nev., and assist with sales- and marketing- related projects as well as repre- sent the winery at sales events, tastings and auctions in California, Nevada and the Southwest. Prior to joining the family winery, Black- wood worked for New Directions Technologies Inc., a government contractor in California as a project management analyst. Healy elected as Wine Institute chair Margie Healy, vice president of F. Korbel and Bros. in Guerneville, was elected Wine Institute board chairman for the 2016-17 fiscal year. The election was held at Wine Institute's 82nd annual meeting of members in Santa Barbara. Other board officers elected were Steve Lohr of J. Lohr Vineyards & Wines in San Jose, first vice chairman; Chris Indelicato of Delicato Fam- ily Vineyards in Napa, second vice chairman; Hank Wetzel of Alexan- der Valley Vineyards in Healdsburg, treasurer; and John Sutton, The Wine Group, secretary. Robert P. (Bobby) Koch is president and CEO of Wine Institute. Healy has more than 40 years of experience in the wine industry and joined Korbel in 1996 as communications direc- tor. Previously, she was director of member relations at Wine Institute. Promotions at Wente Family Estates Amy Hoopes is the new president of Wente Family Estates in Liver- more, and Karl D. Wente is the new chief operations officer and chief winemaker. Hoopes has worked at the winery since 2007 and was pro- moted from the post of executive vice president and chief marketing officer. Karl D. Wente, fifth genera- tion family member, was promoted from winemaker and his new role will include vineyard management of the winery's estate vineyards. Both Hoopes and Wente will report to CEO and fourth generation family member Carolyn Wente. New GM at McEvoy Samantha Dorsey is the new gen- eral manager of McEvoy Ranch.
