Trevino is the former chief production officer and director of wine- making for Purple Wine & Spirits. In his new role, Tre- vino will manage all wine- making and production in North and South America. Trevino also will be charged with adding new winemak- ing talent to support the company's growth. Guarachi hires new chief winemaker Julian Gonzalez is the new chief winemaker for Guara- chi Family Wines based in Los Angeles. Prior to joining Guarachi, Gonzalez was the lead winemaker for Paul Hobbs Consulting, where he oversaw all consult- ing programs for the past nine years. In Gonzalez's new role, he will serve as winemaker and caretaker to Guarachi Family Wines' winemaking program, along with Meadowrock estate vineyard in the Atlas Peak appellation of Napa Valley and Sun Chase vineyard in the Petaluma Gap. Domaine Chandon promotes Lhota Tom Tiburzi is leaving his post as senior winemaker of Domaine Chandon and handing responsibilities over to assistant wine- maker Pauline Lhota. A native of Champagne, France, Lhota has worked alongside Tiburzi since joining Chandon in 2006. Tiburzi started working at Chandon in 1989 as an enologist and became winemaker in 2005. Chappellet Winery founder dies Donn Chappellet, founder of Chappellet Winery and a respected leader in the Napa Valley wine com- munity, died May 22 at age 84. In addition to building the second post-Prohibi- tion winery in the valley, Chappellet was also one of the early pioneers of high- elevation hillside planting. Donn and Molly Chappellet founded the winery on the rocky slopes of Pritchard Hill, and all six of their children have been actively involved in the business. In 2013, the winery named Cyril Chappellet chairman. Jarvis Estate announces promotions Deanna Martinez was promoted from CFO and COO to general manager, and Scott Morrison is the new winemaker at Jarvis Estate Winery in Napa Val- ley. Martinez was the first employee hired by the fam- ily-owned winery in 1987, and as its new general manager she will oversee all day-to-day operations. Morrison is a graduate of the University of California, Davis, and has more than a decade of winemaking experience. Before join- ing Jarvis, Morrison was the head winemaker and general manager of William Harrison Vineyards and Winery, also in Napa Valley. Vineyard research funding decided The American Vineyard Foundation (AVF) board ap- proved $1.3 million in fund- ing for 23 research projects that cover viticulture and enology.
