26 WINES&VINES May 2016 Sentinel crop alert system Sensaphone's new Sentinel system pro- vides alerts by phone, text or email when it de- tects issues such as temperature changes, hu- midity fluctuations, water leaks and power outages. Operators can also check conditions from mobile de- vices. The supplier reports only one Sentinel unit is required to monitor up to 12 different environmental and equipment status conditions including temperature from -109 °F to 168 °F (-85 °C to 76 °C), humid- ity, water detection and power fail- ure. The standard Sentinel system is ethernet-based, but it is also available with a cellular option for remote locations. sensaphone.net Gabriel-Glas wine glasses Gabriel-Glas wine glasses are now available in the North American market. The glass takes its name from Swiss wine critic René Gabri- el, who helped design the glass for all wine types. The glass is dish- washer safe and available in two models: mouth-blown and machine molded. The glass is designed to provide an "instant decanting ef- fect," an "optimum bundling of bouquets" and allow the wine to flow freely onto the palate. gabriel-glasinternational.com Fining agent by BSG BSG Wine Division added a new fin- ing agent called Fitoproteina-P that the Italian manufacturer Vason de- veloped from peas. The product is intended as an alternative to clarifi- ers based on animal gelatines that can trigger allergies. The primary ef- fect of the product is to soften as- tringent and rough tannins during the final clarification of a wine. When used in conjunction with ben- tonite, the product can also be used as a clarifying agent. bsgwine.com Decaser for wine bottles The Model 49 decaser by A-B-C Packaging Machine Corp. is de- signed to work with bottles pack- aged neck down in re-shipper cases. The Model 49 accepts cases from the conveyor either back-to-back or spaced, unloads them and uprights the empty cases for transfer to case pack- ing. The machine runs RSC, HSC and RSC tab-lock cases at speeds of up to 50 cases per minute. abcpackaging.com Sanitizing, commercial-grade dishwasher Hobart introduced the Advansys LXGe glass washer for bars, res- taurants and tasting rooms. The machine cleans and sanitizes glassware with a high-tempera- ture rinse that eliminates the need for chemical sanitizers. A "soft-start" feature helps prevent and reduce glass damage, and an "auto-clean" setting reduces the need for any manual pre-washing. The LXGeR uses 0.62 gallons of water per rack, and the LXGePR uses 1.14 gallons per rack. hobartcorp.com Enartis USA now offering RT-qPCR testing Vinquiry Laboratories by Enartis USA is now offering a complete range of real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (PCR) analysis for individual microbes or an all-inclusive panel. Enartis USA has validated assays for Brettanomyces, Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Zygosaccharomy- ces bailii as well as the compa- ny's own assays for acetic acid bacteria, Lactobacillus, Oeno- coccus and Pediococcus. The testing requires a 50ml sample of wine, and the supplier recom- mends sampling after stirring or racking. enartis.com New infrared toasted barrel Cooperages 1912 expanded its World Cooperage Profile Series with the release of the Dimen- sion barrel, which is made with "contour stave technology" and toasted with infrared energy. The interior surface of the Dimen- sion's staves feature waves or raised areas that, when toasted, create a gradient effect that leads to more complex flavors. "The surface area is increased by 20.4% in this barrel," said David Llodrá, research and de- velopment director for Cooper- ages 1912. "As a result, there is a higher impact of aromatics than when regular staves with a smooth surface are toasted. This toast and stave pairing makes an ideal barrel for Char- donnay fermentation and red va- rietals seeking more texture." cooperages1912.com 'Upside down' fermentor by Radoux Tonnellerie Radoux reports its new "upside down fermentor" designed to create a "full and gentle extraction of color and tannins" produced promising results in winemaking trials in France. The oak fermentor combines the advantages of the cone and inverted cone-shaped casks in one fermentation tank. The trials at wineries in France produced wines the supplier described as exhibiting com- plex aromas and flavors as well as "perfect overall har- mony" with "aromatic complexity, strength and fullness on the palate" and "elegant and velvety tannins." During fermen- tation, the tank is turned to break up and wet the cap. radouxcooperage.com 'Deep dive' data on millennial wine habits Wine Opinions added a new re- port called "American Wine Generations," which is based on a comprehensive survey of high-frequency wine drinkers across generations and a "deep dive" survey into a respondent pool of about 1,400 millennial wine drinkers of all consump- tion frequencies. wineopinions.com Compact, module labeler Sacmi's new KUBE K30 720 9T label- er features two self-adhesive labeling stations and one cold-glue station. The machine has a throughput rate of up to 9,000 bottles per hour and an electronic control system through which motion can be programmed according to the application type. The machine is equipped with a uni- versal screw feeder that is controlled by a brushless motor for flexible, efficient handling of bottles with a di- ameter of 60 mm to 120 mm. Advanced management software—with a machine-mounted electrical control panel and touch screen—makes it possible to control the machine from any device connected to the company network. sacmilabelling.com Product News Latest offerings and announcements Send your product news to edit@winesandvines.com Model 49 decaser
