NEWS OF GRAPES AND WINES IN EASTERN NORTH AMERICA Speakers Chosen for Winery Expo L ancaster, Pa.—Several eminent speakers have been confirmed, and two will be conducting workshops, for the first Eastern Winery Exposition, sched- uled for March 7 and 8 at the Lancaster Convention Center. Dr. Andrew Landers of Cornell University, a leading scientist in crop-spraying technology (and a Wine East contributor), will speak at a two-hour vineyard-spraying workshop with Virginia viticulturist Lucie Morton, also scheduled for a talk titled "Benefits and Mechanics of Close Vine Spacing and Cane Pruning." Tom Payette, a winemaking consultant based in Virginia and the winemaker of the past two winners of the Virginia's Governor's Cup, will speak at the plenary based on models drawn from the Finger Lakes and Pennsylva- nia wine industries. White Landers session as well as on the topic of "Wine- growing and the Internet," "Optimizing Varietal Fruit Character in Cabernet Franc" and at the Newcomers Workshop, "Starting Successfully."
