VintnersSupply_1-3v_VSC_Dec10.qxd 11/1 UNIFIED PREVIEW Winemakers will also be asked to exam- ine the fast-growing trend of sweet wines at a Muscat and sweet reds tasting to be held Jan. 26. The sweet wine market has continued to enjoy rapid growth to the be- musement of some winemakers who view a dry fermentation as a fundamental first step to crafting fine wines. "I love the fact we're going to have the industry sit down and discuss sweet wines," Asimont said. Spanish sessions about winemaking Leticia Chacón-Rodriguez will be helping to lead the symposium's Spanish sessions about winemaking and viticulture Jan. 26. She said she feels the sessions are invalu- able to the many vineyard and winery workers for whom Spanish is their only language or English is a second language. Chacón-Rodriguez said she wants those workers to get a better understanding of why certain tasks are done. "It's good motivation and practical knowledge for when they go back to their jobs," she said. Nearly 13,000 people are expected to attend Unified, and many will be inter- national visitors, something Frey said is always taken into account when planning the symposium. He added that sessions this year will also focus on successfully implementing a social media strategy and building a strong brand image. Joe Whitney of Sierra Nevada Brewing Castoro_Nov08 10/8/08 1:54 PM Page 1 Co. will be part of the general session to describe how the company has successfully grown its brand from a small regional brew- er into a nationally recognized company. In between sessions, the symposium offers more than 600 suppliers and vendors exhib- iting at the symposium and countless social and business networking opportunities. "It's just a great opportunity to net- work when you get 10,000-plus people in one place for several days," Frey said. Registration for the event has opened, and pre-registration rates will be available through Jan. 17. A three-day registration for exhibitors and members of the spon- soring American Society for Enology and Viticulture or California Association of Winegrape Growers is $299, and non- member registration costs $487. One-day registration is $177 for members and $228 for non-members. A pass to see the exhibits is $30 for members and non-members, and registration for only the Spanish sessions is $55. All registration rates, except for the Spanish sessions, will increase after Jan. 17. For information including full sched- ules, visit unifiedsymposium.org. ™ A DIVISION OF MOECKLY ENTERPRISES, INC.
