Melton launches own consultancy Kristy Melton, director of winemaking at Clos Du Val Winery, announced she is leaving the winery to launch her own Napa- based winemaking consul- tancy called Melton Wines. Melton plans to expand her existing client list, which includes Varozza Vineyards in St. Helena and projects at Taylor Family Vineyards in Stags Leap, with addi- tional appellation-oriented, family-owned wineries. Vintage appoints CFO Vintage Wine Estates of Santa Rosa appointed Karen L. Diepholz to the post of chief financial offi- cer. Diepholz most recently was the vice president and CFO for Equinox Payments, a point-of- sale equipment software and services provider in Scottsdale, Ariz. As CFO for Vintage Wine Estates, Diepholz will oversee the finance, accounting, in- formation technology and human resources teams and sit on the executive leadership committee. First cave in Temecula Oak Mountain Winery com- pleted a 10,000-square- foot cave, which is the first in the Southern California wine region. Magorian Mine Services of Auburn, Calif., dug the cave, which has more than 500 linear feet and reaches 65 to 104 feet below the surface. Winery owners Stephen and Valerie Andrews plan to use the new cave for barrel storage and hospi- tality. The winery currently produces 6,500 cases of more than 30 varietal wines and blends. Greenspan named ASEV president Mark Greenspan, president of Advanced Viticulture Inc. in Windsor, Calif., will serve as the 2015-16 board president of the American Society for Enology and Viticulture. Greenspan succeeds Lise Asimont of Francis Ford Coppola Win- ery in Geyserville in leading ASEV's 12-member board. Greenspan, a Sonoma County resident, consults on water and nutrient management, precision viticulture and vineyard design. Prior to founding Advanced Viticulture 10 years ago, he was the viti- culture research manager at E. & J. Gallo Winery, where he was responsible for viticulture experiments in the North Coast vine- yards and collaborative projects throughout the state of California. ASEV also confirmed two new directors: Patty Skinkis, associate professor at the Department of Horticulture at Oregon State University, and Hans Walter-Peterson, viticulture extension spe- cialist at Cornell Coopera- tive Extension. NORTHWEST Panther Creek names president Bacchus Capital Manage- ment appointed Christo- pher Pappe president of Dundee, Ore.-based Pan- ther Creek Cellars, chief operating officer of Mad- rigal Family Winery in Cal- istoga, Calif., and senior advisor at Bacchus Capital Management. Pappe will oversee the establishment and implementation of strategic, financial and di- rect-to-consumer sales for Panther Creek and Mad- rigal as well as work with Bacchus Wineworks on the national sales and market- ing of the two brands.
